2011-10-24
LG Electronics opened a new washing machine production line in Kobierzyce near Wroclaw, increasing production capacity from 400,000 to one million units annually. The South Korean producer also expanded the refrigerator production line in the same facility from 300,000 to one million units annually, and that is to eventually increase to 1.4 million units. The investments will add 800 jobs in the facility and the added appliances are to replace products shipped to the European market from South Korea and China.
The investments are part of LG’s strategy aiming to become the leading household appliance producer in Europe by 2015. In 2010, LG announced that investments in Poland will reach $70m (€50.4m) as part of the strategy.
LG also announced in 2010 that within one-two years it will open a research and development (R&D) facility employing 300 engineers in Kobierzyce, which will be the concern’s central R&D facility in Europe. The company is currently working out a timeline for the launch of the centre.
LG had revenues of $48.2bn (€34.77bn) in 2010 and employed 93,000 individuals globally.
