Unilever investing €23m in plant expansion
2012-02-10
Unilever started the expansion of its plant in Bydgoszcz, which produces hair and body care cosmetics. The investment is worth €23m and will add 100 new jobs at the factory once it is completed. The new section of the plant will start operating at the end of 2012, while full production capacity will be gained in Q1 2013.
The investment will allow for production capacity at the factory to increase from the current 190 million units of cosmetics and toilet blocks annually, to 340 million, according to Marek Glowski, the director of the plant, cited by the press agency.
The new buildings in the facility will contain modern mixers for cosmetics production as well as packaging lines for bottles, tubes and jars. In the logistics section, there will be space for storing raw materials and packaging.
Currently, 87% of the production in the Bydgoszcz factory is designated for export, and that share is to eventually increase to 95%. The plant currently hires 541 individuals.
Unilever had revenues of over PLN 3.3bn (€784.1m) in Poland in 2010. The concern has four production facilities in the country. In addition to Bydgoszcz, in Banino (Pomorskie voivodship) it produces ice cream, in Katowice it produces margarine and tea, and culinary products are made in Poznan.
