A Lithuanian FMCG trade group
Maxima Grupe will expand in Poland by taking over small retail chains, according to general director Mindaugas Bagdonavicius, cited by the portalspozywczy.pl portal. He added that the economic crisis was a good time for acquisitions as it allowed the group to negotiate more attractive prices for Polish chains.
According to Mr Bagdonavicius, the Polish market offers a lot of possibilities and, most importantly, a large number of consumers.
In 2011 Maxima Grupe took over Lublin-based
Aldik Nova, the owner of 24 grocery supermarkets located in the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodships.
Maxima Grupe intends to focus on sustained expansion abroad in 2012, including in Poland. The group increased consolidated revenues by 6.5% year on year in 2011 to €2.25bn and invested €63m in development.
