Indesit to increase production capacity despite the crisis
2008-12-16
Indesit, the prominent Italian producer of electronic appliances, does not intend to reduce production in Poland despite the fact that the white goods industry is one of those most severely affected by aspects of the crisis, according to
Puls Biznesu. Barbara Ferrazzi, the company’s new CEO, has stated that the producer earned a record-breaking amount in November 2008 in Poland, and that this allows it to be optimistic, if cautious, about the future.
Whirlpool, another major player on the market, is planning to dismiss 395 people at its Polish factory, whereas
Electrolux is cutting costs by giving its workers longer Christmas holidays. In contrast, Indesit plans to hire a few hundred people in 2009, at the newly opened factories in Radomsko. At present it employs around 3,000 people in Poland.
Indesit estimates that the white goods market will grow by 10% in Poland in 2009, in contrast to 16% in 2007 and an estimated 13% in 2008. It plans to increase its share of the Polish market in terms of value; at present it accounts for 12%.
