Catering business anticipates recovery in Poland
2010-04-08
The
catering industry in Poland has been stagnating as a result of the crisis, according to
calculations of PMR. Over the last few years, this subdivision of the
HoReCa industry has been increasing gradually – it was worth PLN 3.5bn (€912m) in 2006, PLN 3.8bn (€1bn) in 2007 and PLN 4bn (€1bn) in 2008. The 2009 value of the industry, which has not yet been estimated, might have declined, but an increase is expected at the beginning of 2011.
The catering industry seems to be very promising in Poland. At present, Poles spend around 5% of their food budget on dining out, whereas in Germany and the USA the figures are 35% and 50% respectively.
Food producers are, therefore, planning to expand their catering services, according to
Parkiet. By way of example, Pamapol, the well-known manufacturer of ready meals, is working on a new catering project.
Graal, the prominent fish processing company, expects to enter the catering industry in 2011 via organic growth or an acquisition.
Sfinks Polska, the operator of the
Sphinx and
Wook restaurant chains, also intends to develop a catering service in the very near future. However,
PKM Duda, the prominent meat producer, has already entered this arena and is supplying catering firms with its products.
