Construction of Akropolis retail facility to commence in May
2010-04-19
The construction of the Akropolis shopping centre is due to begin in May 2010. The complex will be built in Bronisze-Jawczyce, near Warsaw, and will take up 120,000 m². During the first stage of construction, which will last for eight months, shopping halls under the Alfa and Beta names will be built. The halls will take up 15,000 m² each. In total, the complex will consist of five retail spaces, in addition to other facilities such as storage areas and a car park.
The investor and the general contractor of Akropolis is
Budohal, a Polish construction firm.
Despite the economic downturn, investment activity on the shopping and commercial property market remains resilient. In 2009 investors obtained permits for 5,381 shopping and commercial buildings, an increase of 7% compared with 2008. The combined area of these planned buildings was nearly 3.9 million m2, up by 18% on the year before. The biggest number of permits were issued in the Mazowieckie voivodship (702), followed by Slaskie (520) and Wielkopolskie (494).
A major revival of activity can be observed e.g. in shopping centres: nearly 100 such investments are currently in progress or in the preparatory phase. However, because many shopping-centre projects were halted during 2009, the number of new shopping centres that will be opened in Poland this year will drop to about 20. We expect the figure to be much bigger in 2011-2012, with the opening of several dozen new centres, both in Poland’s largest cities and in smaller regional cities.
