In June 2010, retail sales increased by 4.6% in constant prices and by 6.5% in current prices in comparison with the analogous month of 2009. However, analysts expected the market to increase by 4.5% in current prices. In comparison with May 2010, retail sales improved by 4.1% in June 2010.
The fastest growing areas of the market included cosmetics and pharmaceutical goods, the sales of which increased by 20.4% year on year, and electronic and household appliances. The latter subgroup increased by 19.7% in June 2010 in comparison with June 2009.
The sales of food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco goods increased by 3.2% year on year, whereas sales of footwear and clothing boasted a 12.2% year-on-year improvement. However, June brought an 8.8% year-on-year reduction in sales of books and newspapers.
