Outlet centres on the increase in Poland
2010-07-28
The outlet fashion centre market is developing rapidly in Poland, according to a recent report by Colliers International (CI). In 2009, shopping malls which offered popular brands at reduced prices reported a 20% increase in sales because of the crisis, along with a greater propensity to save.
At present, the outlet centres, most of which are located in large cities such as Warsaw, Katowice, Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan, have around 100,000 m² of usable space. In Warsaw alone 37,000 m² of retail space may be found in outlet centres.
CI analysts emphasise that the area of outlet centres will increase significantly by 2011, as a result of the launch of new establishments. In Krakow, the Spanish firm
Neinver has started to build Futura Park Krakow, which will be divided into two sections: a shopping gallery and an outlet centre. The latter section will have around 21,000 m² of retail space. The complex is due to open in the second half of 2011. In addition, the Spanish developer is planning to set up an outlet centre under the Annopol Factory name in the Bialoleka district of Warsaw. The latter complex will take up 14,000 m², but its construction has, however, been delayed.
