The consumption of bottled water has been gradually increasing in Poland, according to a report in Rzeczpospolita. In H1 2010, the sales of bottled water in stores and at petrol stations grew by 10% in terms of volume and by 11% by value to PLN 1.25bn, as Nielsen reported. According to the producers, the market may grow by over 12% in 2010. In July 2010 alone, the consumption of bottled water went up by 30% due to warm weather.
Zywiec Zdroj, reported a 40% increase in sales in July 2010 when compared to June 2010. The company expects to increase its sales revenues by up to 17% in 2010 in comparison to 2009.
Also, Coca Cola HBC Polska, the fourth-largest player on the water market in Poland in terms of volume, underlines that water is the fastest-growing segment among all non-alcoholic beverages offered by the company. In turn, Polskie Zdroje, the owner of the Cisowianka brand, plans to increase its sales by 30% year on year in 2010.
The market is expected to continue its growth as water consumption in Poland is still lower than in other European countries. Poles drink around 60 litres of water per capita, while Germans consume around 120 litres on average per year.
