Indykpol expects the poultry market to grow in Poland
2010-08-27
The poultry producers expect the second half of 2010 to be difficult for the industry. The prices of grains and fodder may go up due to a low harvest resulting from flooding, fires and droughts that have occurred in many parts of the world. As a result, the cost of poultry production may go up.
Still, the demand for poultry is expected to grow in Poland. The Central Statistical Office (GUS) data shows that the consumption of poultry grew from 14.7% in 2000 to 24% in 2008 of total meat consumption in Poland. Morover, Poles eat around 24 kilo poultry per capita per year, while the average for the European Union is around 23 kilo per capita.
Thus, the management of Indykpol, one of the largest poultry producers in Poland, expects the consumption of poultry to continue its growth. At the beginning of 2010, the company launched a new production line that increased the company’s production capacity by around 20%. Moreover, the producer will invest in a feed-mixing facility that will work at full capacity in 2011/2012. The latter investment is expected to bring around PLN 150m (€37.5m) of sales revenues per year.
The market analysts estimate that the group will generate PLN 866.5m (€217m) of sales revenues and PLN 21.1m (€5.3m) of net profit in 2010. In 2009, the company posted PLN 782.8m (€196m) in sales revenues and PLN 12.4m (€3.1m) of net profit.
