Redcoon, the international online store, is interested in the acquisition of Merlin.pl, the well-known Polish online multimedia concern and bookstore. As Retail Update Poland reported on a previous occasion, also Empik, multimedia and bookstore chain, plans to take over Merlin.pl (see the news brief "Empik to buy Merlin.pl" in the Retail Update Poland issue from 14 July 2010 to find more datails). On 8 July, Empik together with Merlin.pl signed an agreement pertaining to the sale of the latter, though the transaction still needs an approval from the Office of Competition and Consumers Protection (UOKiK).
Redcoon does not reveal if its offer for the takeover of Merlin.pl is higher than the sum of between PLN 115-130m (€28.8-32.5m) proposed by Empik.
Redcoon is a company established in Germany that currently operates in ten countries. It has around 4.8 million users and sells 180,000 items per month. The company does not reveal its financial results.
